Protein bars, who needs ’em? Well me. I have ridiculous protein goals and a constant hankering for chocolate and candy, so definitely me. I love a protein bar and the almost guilt-free indulgence that stops me from always being on the brink of meltdown.
Grenade have jumped on the birthday cake bandwagon and I was intrigued. I don’t know why though, I hadn’t yet had anything else birthday cake themed. Despite only having tried one variety of Grenade bar before, I’m a bit of a sucker for them – and I guess I knew this’d be a hit and a bit of me wanted to get in there quick.
My first thoughts? Holy hell – these are sweet. At first I thought too sweet but who am I kidding? I got over it pretty quickly. When I’m grabbing for a bar, I’m usually starving and have hit a wall so the sweetness (although somewhat artificial – in nature, not flavour) acts as fantastic placebo for me.
The bar itself has a standard protein bar texture/consistency; that sorta soft but tough (?) nougat style bar (which if I’m honest I’ve totally got on board with, I like to chew) in a simple vanilla flavour. The simple vanilla is very much necessary here as the bar is dipped in a sweetened white chocolate and garnished (ooh la la) with sprinkles.
The chocolate is smooth and the sprinkles add a nice texture change and act as a secondary snack when the disappointment of finishing your food hits you (like a McDonald’s bag chip, y’know?).
Plus who doesn’t love sprinkles? I hate to be cliché but sprinkles are the best and if you don’t love sprinkles, you have a dead, cold heart.
Worth another purchase when I’ve a tried a few more flavours.
